‘Space, Hope and Altered Estates’

Astro-civics, cosmic utopias, spectral blueprints, eternal war and secular transcendence.

In these new paintings I continue to explore themes of communities and their dissolution often relating to trauma and conflict, with art as a redemptive proposition. I use allusions to architecture; places of habitation such as Britain’s New Towns, housing estates, military installations, and the occupation and civilianisation of contested space through settlement to hopefully suggest the uncertainty of human-historical time. The current work is therefore concerned with ideas of utopia as a teleological state where creating new worlds produces a doctrine of endless and intractable conflict.
