2009 The 5th World Ceramic Biennale Korea
International Performance Show
"Ceramic Passion"
World Ceramic Biennale, Icheon City, Korea, 3 day akshun 1-3rd May 2009
The performance explores relationships between materials used in ceramic processes and their possible extended uses through painting and performance.
The performance process explores methods of creating with clay and applies them to painting as performance: throwing, slip, applying glaze, firing.
The use of ceramic materials are historically prerformative by the very nature of the process of making and creating with clay. Applying these methods to painting the artist will create a series of performance works that explore the relationship of gesture and 'akshun' in order to seek and illustrate intersections between ceramics, painting, and performance art.
The performance references the work of the influencial Japanese Gutai Group
formed in Osaka & Tokyo in 1955, and their investigation into how
"to invent a new painting."
